40-Forwaders, I tell you no lie, this is THE hardest corrective action (CA) plan – Be in Good Health. This is a struggle. I do mean struggle. Talk about inconsistent, this is it. I went as far as placing an activity/reminder on my calendar, but still not keeping up. I talk to the Lord on this matter more than anything. Lord, help me!
In all fairness, it has not been all bad (keep reading and you will see).
What’s my WHY for this discipline? A reset is in order – God’s temple must be able to carry out His business.
Truth is, if we are unhealthy we place “limits” on ourselves (and come to think of it, on God as well). [Selah]
My plan of attack is similar to that of my finances – know my numbers, research, and get good counsel. After much quarrelling and prodding by my mama (Mums), I went to the doctor for a checkup. 🙂 Hooray, all my vitals are great! Wait a minute … oh no, my haemoglobin level is back on the low side again. That’s why I have been feeling fatigued, slightly dizzy and having shortness of breath (symptoms of low iron levels). This is a longstanding issue that shall change. We are all about “be healthy”!
You know what 40-Forwaders, I cannot recall ever doing any personal research relating to this matter; until now. 😉
I was in for a rude awakening when I checked the “Foods to Avoid List” – most of what I love to eat is on the list (OMG)! I was sabotaging my own progress and did not know it. This is a classic example of “my people perish for lack of knowledge.”
40-Forwarders, you see how important it is for us to know our numbers (know our status)? What we don’t know can harm us!
I am now armed (& dangerous) with the right information. I am resolved to WIN!
See why I say it was not all bad?
Next on the agenda …
My weight, my weight, my weight needs to calibrate – I am the heaviest I have ever been. Not good.
But again, this too shall change!
My dear 40-Forwarders, as the Lord would have it, we have started a Healthy Lifestyle Challenge at my local church; and guess what, I am part of the organising committee, no joke. Tell me God is not concerned about every aspect of our lives!
Support and accountability are important pillars of success.
I am not, at this time, able to do all the required lifestyle changes, but I have:
- Made dietary choices that align with increasing my haemoglobin levels
- Increased my water intake
- Reduced my sugar intake
- Reduced my salt intake
- Increased my rest (the jury is still out on this one)
MORE good news!
As I said in the beginning, it’s not all bad. I am not where I want to be, but I am not where I use to be.
By the way, is it just me, or eating healthy is costly (especially when you are on a very tight budget)?! No worries, I will soon tell you about my solution to this “temporary” setback.
My dear youngins, I implore you to develop a healthy lifestyle from early and please, please, please maintain the discipline. It’s really rough after 40. Can I get an Amen from my fellow 40-Forwaders?!
It is a challenge but #It’s possible to develop this new norm!
I have issued myself (& and now you) a Healthy Everyday challenge – do at least one healthy thing/activity each day and jot it down. It’s all about setting specific targets, tracking and trending (we call this monitor, measure and analysis in “quality” speak).
CONSISTENCY is the name of the game! We will be sure to celebrate our progress – one inch at a time, one pound at a time, one improved vital at a time.
If you know anyone who could benefit from this post, please feel free to share. If you are already living Healthy Everyday, drop your success story, some tips and words of encouragement in the comment section below.
Let’s go 40-Forwaders! Let’s go!
